I thought I would throw out a quick review and history on this piece. First off, this is a tribute to Jacques Piccard. In addition to travelling down 10,911 meters into the Marianna Trench, he was also known for the Grumman-Piccard PX-15 aka Ben Franklin. This 6 man submarine travelled from Palm Beach to Novia Scotia under water in 30 days nearly 1500 miles in 1969.
The sapphire crystal of the Piccard watch was designed/modeled after the Bathyscaphe Trieste actual window the 2 divers looked out onto the ocean floor. The Piccard watch actually has a picture of the PX-15 (not the Trieste) on the case back carved out of titanium. That submarine was not built to set any depth records, but instead to serve as a science observatory for the 1500 mile trip. I sense the intention of this watch was not to have an extreme depth rating either. So this is not another copy of Rolex’s non-production watch in my eyes. Jmo.
Pretty cool watch. It wears super light imo on the wrist being made out of titanium. The dome distortions are unreal. More to come. 😉.
