    Design based on Miyota 9100

    Dear all,

Recently I have been working on some designs based on the automatic Miyota 9100 movement with power reserve. The watch diameter is 41mm with a 20mm strap. I am really interested in your opinion and have a few color combinations to show. Personally, I like the blue dial the most but only with a mesh strap.

    Feedback is much appreciated!

Decent nice framework but the dial is much too much overloaded especially in the lower half. Perhaps you could also try to shorten the minutes hand a bit . Blue seems to be the best because of the reduced contrast ... takes a bit from the load on the subdials and date window

These are good basics design. For me, the date window should be rounded too. So it shared the same concept with the registers.

The case shape is so generic. Instantly makes the watch look like an Aliexpress special. A clean and minimalist dial is all well and good, but you need to add some of your own design styling to the case really in my opinion or you'll end up blending in with the rest of the MVMT and Daniel Wellington rip offs out there.

when the image on a screen is so large, it looks nice. but in real-life size of ~40 mm most of your print will look like tiny scratches and specs of dust on a solid-color dial. The hands are also skinny to the point you'll need to look really hard to notice them

my piece of advice: zoom out often when you work on the dial design

    Design based on Miyota 9100

I like the diagrammatic, drawing-like quality of the indices, handsets, etc., (esp. the red seconds). This character is really enhanced with that lovely shade of blue dial.

The markings, hands, and subdials feel crowded about the center. Biggest irritant is the date window’s location: it intensifies the crowded feeling making me wonder if it should be there at all.

Overall I like the direction though and would seriously consider the blue dialed version but with no date.

Jonahaha has not returned to the forum since Nov 2017 but hopefully they will continue to check this thread for feedback (assuming they have not yet put their design into production).

I'm surprised that nobody has commented that the date window alignment is optimised for wearing on the right wrist on the first illustration compared to the others.

That was actually the first thing I noticed and I wonder if they even make a 9100 with the date wheel printed that way?

I think the 9122 would work better and not look so cluttered, but it is missing the PR indicator
