Picture Any experiences with the Arctos GPW watch?

I have had the Arctos NATO, and that was really well built. Anyone ever handle the all ceramic GPW?

Re: Any experiences with the Arctos GPW watch?

I purchased one when they were first introduced. The ceramic case is very nice. Unfortunately, the watch stopped at random intervals even though it was fully wound. The replacement watch had a winding/setting problem such that it was very difficult to set the watch. When attempting to set the time, the watch would wind instead. Arctos was very good about refunding my money but I would not purchase another watch from them due to what appears to be almost nonexistent quality control.

As an additional note be aware that because of the position of the date window the minute hand obscures the date for several minutes every hour.

Yes it was. Are you still considering purchasing one? If you don't mind my asking what is the current price? I believe Arctos had introductory pricing of $800 when I bought mine.

Thumbs Up Re: Any experiences with the Arctos GPW watch?

Have 2 and no problems. I love the finish on the ceramic - always like new.

I was told they switched suppliers for the next generation GPW in 2008. I have the newest generation. That may have been different from E.F. Schwerin.

I like the observation that the minute hand will cover the date during the day. Actually the minute hand will go over the date window 24 times a day and the hour hand will go over the date twice a day. Just as a regular analog watch has 12 hours on a dial, and a day has 24 hours (last I checked). The minute hand will move 360 degrees every hour

Unless short hands are used the date display will be covered by any watch hand on any dial.

I have one and love it. Just got a compliment today at the coffee shop.

The date can be larger, but that is the ETA movement feature (there is a new ETA movement with larger date now)
