Back in 2004/2005 ARCHIMEDE, WatchUSeek, & EOT were sponsoring a "Pass Around" of an Archimede Pilot watch, both in the US and the EU. At that time two watches (same model) were sent from forum member to forum member to review the watch. All participating members words and examined the watch for 7 days before sending it along to the next participant.
All participants were asked to write a short review and post pictures of the ARCHIMEDE. Their reviews and pictures were then posted here, on EQUATION OF TIME and - at those times - on ARCHIMEDE’s website. Of course, the participants were free to post their reviews on other fora as well, some appeared in early 2005 on Timezone though.
A new ARCHIMEDE website is already in the pipeline and will again have a review section..
In October 2018, during a Munichtime evening event, Lisa Ickler, CEO ARCHIMEDE, and I had the pleasure to arrange for some manufacturers and aficionados we were talking about the good old times and her dad’s pass around. On that evening the idea of a pass around revival was born..
We chose the ARCHIMEDE OutDoor 41 AntiMag to be the 2019 pass around watch.
The OutDoor AntiMag features an inner soft iron case that provides protection from magnetic fields of up to 80,000 A/m/ 1000 Gauss/100 mT. This inner case, which consists of a dial, movement holder and base, bundles the magnetic field lines and guides them safely around the watch movement.
Despite the soft iron mantle around the movement, the OutDoor AntiMag is reasonably sized at just 41 mm with a thickness of only 11 mm. Like the smaller OutDoor Protect (39 mm), the stainless steel case has a hardness of approximately 1200 HV. Comprising a slim crown protector, 7 mm screw crown, sapphire crystal, and solid threaded base, the housing components form a compact and solid unit. The OutDoorAntiMag retails for €980.
The ARCHIMEDE Pass Around should be fun in the main, unfortunately, a minimum of rules is inevitable.
WUS members living in Europe or the US who want to participate are kindly requested to sent me an Email or PM. Unfortunately, due to a lack of a point of contact , Asia is not possible at the.moment.
The number of participants is not limited, however we want to keep it doable and manageable. The selection of participants will be done by WUS moderators/editors in cooperation with ARCHIMEDE.
We tried to keep the rules short and clear.
# Participants should be long-term WUS members with history of contribution on our discussion fora, and with a good standing/reputation.
# A PayPal confirmed address is a must.
# Those who want to join the ARCHIMEDE pass around agree that shipping and insurance is the responsibility of the participants. The participants agree that they must forward the watch to the new participant after reviewing it for a period of 7 days.
# The participants agree that the watch is the property of Ickler GmbH, Pforzheim/Germany, for the entire pass around.
# The participants agree to handle the watch carefully. However, ARCHIMEDE is aware that signs of wear and tear are almost inevitable.
# The participants agree to post their reviews and pictures here on WatchUSeek (German Watches Forum), they agree that ARCHIMEDE may or may not copy (completely or in extract) their reviews to the ARCHIMEDE website. The participants are free to post their review on the ARCHIMEDE OutDoor AntiMag on other fora as well.
The Points of Contact
WatchUSeek will establish PoC in Europe (Mike Stuffler) and the US (Bhanu Chopra) who will chaperone the Pass Around. The PoC will also monitor shipping from one participant to the next one and provide the necessary addresses. Of course, Lisa Ickler is available for questions too.
According to ARCHIMEDE the watches are already shipped away. I am expecting them to arrive next week.
The start of the ARCHIMEDE Pass Around is scheduled for April 1st.
In the meantime: We are looking forward to receiving your application by PM or Email.
