    GUB Glashutte

    I have this GUB cal.70.1.,rose gold case for couple of years, and I ve'been wondering every time I take a look on that watch, are those hands original or not?
    My doubts are even stronger since I own another GUB that has exactly the same movement and dial, but different hands-they are gold tone hands that correspond with the time of origin of this watch.

    What would You say?

    Thanks in advance.

    They look like shorter 70s style hands and the second hand is strange. I'd say they are replacements but not being a Glashutte expert not totally sure. Send a PM to Mike Stuffler and ask him.

    Would You please toggle this thread to "German watches"?That way I wouldn't have to open a new thread over there.

    Thanks!

    Re: GUB Glashutte

    Hi,

    I think very difficult to buy used watches 60-70's because we are not having enough information about them. I bought 2 used watches on eBay; 1st one is Waltham porcelain dial with 12 in red. This is original but the manual wind was broken after 2 month, the 2nd one is Glashutte but it is not original the dial was changed.
    So I don’t want to buy any more used watch even I still want to get one of them but original.
    Do you have any recommend buying the original used watch on eBay?

    Thanks

    Well, tons of 70.1 movements/watches have been produced in those times (of centrally planned economy). The GUB had to answer a great demand and as a fact the planned economy forced them to use hands from all sources they could source from. That´s wha it is close to impossible to judge if hands are original ones or not. I´ve seen a lot of GUB watches in the last 20 years and I´d say the hands are typical for GUB watches. It may be that the seconds hand is/was a replacment but in those times you had to take what you got. Does no "harm" to the watch. Nevertheless the dial and hands seem to need a "refreshment".

    Thanks for info,Mike.

    @cmcuong

    Since I haven't bought any of my watches on ebay(I buy only parts over there) I cant really help you with recommendations.I have a philosophy of not buying anything with historical value 'till I see in live what I'm buying.

    Dial is replaced with new one that came yesterday straight from "Glashutte S.A.".
    I'll save the old one for some "refreshing" in the future.
