In advance of Baselworld 2018...a reason to be looking

So, threads of the last few days having driven me to look at Citizen's Japan site...lo and behold, it is their 100th anniversary this year. My, my. A recent online article brought up that many "anniversaries" are pretty contrived...who cares about 15th or 35th or 80th? But 100th is 'natural' for us, for how we count time.

So I wouldn't be surprised if there's a particularly nice Chronomaster. Likely an Eco Drive One, altho the sticker shock on that is likely to be 200 proof. HAQ Eco Drive One would be interesting IF they can pull it off. GPS maybe? Probably several Campanolas.

Could we afford an Eco-Drive One with HAQ movements?

I did say the sticker shock might be 200 proof. :)

It might not kick the price up *that* much tho.

With eco-drive Axxx movements,I do not think it is likely. Maybe retro mechanical movements?

The existing Eco Drive One movement is a complete redesign; IIRC, the whole layout had to be changed in order to get the height down so low, so any layout-based height waste could be removed.

Retro mechanicals would make sense. I was mostly focused on what might interest us here. But I did say Campanolas too. Hey, an HAQ Campanola?

Ohhhh...probably not, but...a solar Precisionist? Or add TC to the Precisionist?

Don't hold yer breath. If you look at what Bulova has discontinued in the past 18 months and what they've introduced this year I'd say the death (or at least the full-bore stall) of Bulova is happening. Forget anything of the sort with a Bulova name on it. What they've introduced will scar the retinas.

Maybe Citizen will take it's IP back (262kHz quartz) and mate it with the EcoDrive for a Citizen branded product? Who knows.

I would expect Citizen to bring a limited edition Sat Wave or perhaps a Bluetooth watch to show off their technology in quartz. I wouldn't expect them to mess with the eco-drive one, why devalue the one still on the market or the ones that people bought. The Campanola line tends to show off with Arnold & Son movements in their limited edition pieces.

No telling what the Bulova group will bring, but their Moonwatch and Curv introduction have been quite successful.

I'm really interested in what will be left of the Breitling quartz line.

It would be nice to see if Tissot or Certina starts doing something with those newer HAQ from eta.

I keep hoping that each year will see the re-release of the Crystron 4 Mega. Definitely about time for an Eco-Drive version, I think.

I don't like how energy hungry the Precisionist movements are. Maybe a solar version would help there, but I wonder how much energy reserve it would have.

Personally I don't need a gliding second hand. As long as the hand movement is precise, with the pointer hitting all of the markers (or at least 90%) and no noticeable backlash, that is good enough for me.
