Grand Seiko SBGX007 vs. Citizen AB9000-52L plus Forum direction

I'm really wanting to pick up a blue-dialed watch with a high accuracy quartz movement. I've already tried the Grand Seiko SBGX065 but found the blue dial to be too bright and flashy. The only other options i've been able to find in my budget are these two.

The SBGX007 is an older model from the early 2000s with the 9F62 movement. The case and dial design is slightly different than the newer SBGX models. Also, the sapphire is domed rather than flat. Then there's the AB9000-52L, which forego's the lume of other Chronomasters and uses the A660 movement. The whole package is very reminiscent of the SBGX065, with a darker blue.

Which one would you choose? There is a price difference, with the SBGX007 being a little over half the price of the newer Citizen watch, but it's harder to find an example in excellent condition. Is it worth paying the premium for the new Citizen, or does the charm of the old Grand Seiko and lower price tag make it worth waiting around for a good copy?

Given how little the Seiko and Citizen renderings reflect how their watches look in real life, I would need to see wrist shots to decide.

I don't know if their way of presenting the watches is typically Japanese, but for me most (and especially the higher end) look much better in person or in real photos.

From the photos I like the look of the Citizen better. If you had an excellent example of the GS available to you for a really good price right now it might be compelling but I don't think it's worth waiting around for one to become available.

Size might be a consideration. The GS has a much smaller dial due to the case & bezel design and a case size of about 35mm v 38mm. I do like the domed crystal on those older GS models.

From looks alone these watches are extremely similar so it comes down to the spec sheet to compare. Personally I would go for the Grand Seiko because of the more moderate size.

Seiko is better then citizen, Seiko was known by the accuracy and precision with a long journey history

Citizen have had a good stab at it too.

In 1975 Citizen produced the a claimed 3 second per year 4 MHz Crystron. Arguably the pinnacle of the accuracy race in the early days of quartz.
For the last couple of decades, Citizen has held the crown for the most accurate production quartz (as claimed by their marketing department) with their A660 and A010 movements at 5 seconds per year. Although dont beleive these figures because they come from the marketing department not engineers.

Seiko obviously has great history with quartz, but arguably Citizen has nearly caught up with them over the last 50 years.

Some bit of reading on this forum would not hurt you either: Marketing claims (understanding the careful wording of those claims) should not be confused with real-life performance! If performance claims (by the marketing departments) are not backed by technological advancement then they are just marketing without real merit!
The fact is that in thermocompensation there is no meaningful advancement in the past 35 or so years! Marketing departments has been working hard to hide this fact in the past 20 odd years but we should know better in this forum!
The new hope is the Citizen Cal.0100 that according to Citizen offers new advanced technologies: 8.4 MHz quartz combined with thermocompensation (that is an improved form of the current thermocompensation scheme according to the claims by Citizen)! Now that could be an improvement after 20 odd years of marketing garbage! We shall see!

That's a bit of a harsh put down.
The previous poster was implying that Citizen had no history with high accuracy quartz.

Seiko haven't updated their high end quartz offering in 25 years.

Meanwhile in recent years Citizen have production models with solar power, independent hour hand, perpetual calendar, date that actually changes at midnight.
These have nothing to do with accuracy, but demonstrate commitment to developing high end quartz movements.
IAHH and solar power make HAQ more useful because you don't have to reset the time every 6 months or 3 to 5 years.

Citizen have shown a prototype of a new movement that should run 1 seconds per year. Don't believe this claims, it's probably just the pesky marketing people and hasn't been run by the engineers as usual. In real life it will be lucky to get 3 spy, we'll just have to wait and see.

Seiko are great. Citizen are ok too.
