Oh....ok...the worriers could end up being right.

Concern Rising within Amateur Radio Community over WWV-WWVH Shut Down Proposal

    I can't believe it's costing anything serious...but.....

If we don't respond...this could easily happen.

I hope this doesn't violate the political discussion restriction. If so, my apologies and feel free to delete.

There's an online petition to keep it alive here:

US residents, please, for obvious reasons.

My bad just read their proposal, apparently those sites also do work on greenhouse gases, and affects of aerosols on the environment, pollution, and climate change. All cut, so I guess the commerce department looks at the time signal as collateral damage to their overall agenda.

Now of course congress can reject this proposal in its entirety from commerce, but sadly petitions have had seen little effect with the current bunch. Millions signed net neutrality to no avail. Hope would be that Citizen, Casio, Seiko, and anybody else making RC watches get their lobbyist to DC. That tends to work.

None of those are US companies, so I doubt their efforts would help.

I grant it may do nothing, but it costs us just a moment of time and it can't hurt. Now, if you want to also send letters to your Senators and Congressmen, I'm not gonna try to argue against that. The less we do, the greater the chance this will sail through.

    No need to worry:
WWV is all about shortwave, it has nothing to do with RF clocks/watches even if it gets shuttered due to defunding, your RF clocks/watches won't be affected!
On the other hand - as far as I know - WWVB that transmit at 60kHz longwave and provides time for RF clocks/watches in North America is not proposed for defunding so again your RF clocks/watches won't be affected!

Nope, they want to include the WWVB signal and shut down both stations. The AARL site goes into a little detail, and it's in the Commerce dept. proposed budget.

NIST’s full Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 budget request to Congress calls for the agency to “discontinue the dissemination of the US time and frequency via the NIST radio stations in Hawaii and Fort Collins, Colorado.” The agency noted, “These radio stations transmit signals that are used to synchronize consumer electronic products like wall clocks, clock radios, and wristwatches, and may be used in other applications like appliances, cameras, and irrigation controllers.” The specific cut, which would come from the NIST Fundamental Measurement, Quantum Science, and Measurement Dissemination budget, would amount to $6.3 million.

WWVB is not included in the proposed cuts, fortunately.
