    Stealth accutron release?

    Just seen this on hodinkee:

    https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/bi...aselworld-2019

"In keeping with Citizen's habit of rolling out big news in a quiet fashion, the group announced, and showed, a most unusual wristwatch. The new watch is Accutron-branded, and details so far are a little on the thin side, but it looks as if there's not only going to be a return of Accutron, but that it's going to debut new technology as well. The watch we saw bears a close stylistic resemblance to the Accutron Spaceview, but with what Citizen and Bulova describe as an electrostatic generator and drive system, mated with a quartz timing package. The watch doesn't seem to presage a return of the classic tuning-fork Accutron movements; instead, it looks like the Accutron name will be used to brand the new movement technology. We'll be keeping a close eye out for more news on this front in the coming months"

Could this be a brand new Haq movement/technology?

No way to tell, but I doubt it, says my nearly opaque crystal ball.

So, no, for right now it's not HAQ. Doesn't mean they couldn't throw in TC later, I suppose. The power generation means no battery; question's gonna be how long its PR is. No idea what the "electrostatic motor" for the seconds hand means.

EDIT: BTW, I actually got to that page by searching on Bulova's site, for "accutron." So it's a real, Bulova page.

Figure the lower 2 are the power generating turbines, since they're the same size. The upper one? I'm thinking it's related to the motor for the seconds hand.

Your link cites +/- 5 seconds per month for accuracy of the movement. Not strictly HAQ, but very interesting. I also am curious what the power reserve would be since it says the power generating turbines are triggered by wrist movement...

They got my attention. I like it.

It could be the power generated / stored are not high so they needed to keep the circuit simple or the frequency low? I don't know, just say'in.

But I like it. Definitely want to know more when they come out.

    Re: Stealth accutron release?

Some chatter about this on the Bulova forum for the last few weeks. From the sound of it they're planning to use the 262kHz movement or some derivative of it.

And as it not being HAQ, take a gander at a data sheet for the Precidrives. The ETA data sheet says it's not any better than 5 sec/month so by the 10 sec/yr standard it's not HAQ either.

    https://www.eta.ch/en/our-products/o...e-technologies

PreciDrive can achieve a precision which can pass the COSC chronometer certification, provided the watch is not exposed to impacts, and kept at a temperature of between 20°c and 30°c.

Isn't COSC around 26 sec/yr? and then there's the matter of their data sheet saying over a wider temp range it's more like 73 sec/yr:

    https://secure.eta.ch/CSP/DesktopMod...025&DocType=DT

That explains to me why I see my Precidrives with greater error than my Bulovas. For all I know the 60 sec/yr could be over 20-30C or could be 8-38C like the Precidrive spec.

To me Bulova is being more honest as they've always beaten their 5 sec/mo quoted spec. Certina routinely misses 10 sec/yr. claim.
