Baselworld, the world’s most important specialised trade show for watches, jewellery and gemstones, reports an 8% increase in the number of professional visitors attending the show on the first two days compared to last year.

    “An indispensable platform”

Numerous exhibitors likewise expressed strong satisfaction with the start of Baselworld and confirm first positive results. For example, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Co-president of Chopard, says that “the 2018 show started very positively, we were able to welcome many partners from all over the world and have received a very keen interest in our new products. With more than 300 international journalists, our press conference about “Sustainability”, which took place on Thursday, was a complete success. The great response demonstrates once again that Baselworld is and remains an indispensable platform for exchange for the watch and jewellery industry.”

    “Essential time of the year”

Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, says that “Baselworld is an essential time of the year for the industry, representing the vast majority of watch exports. The show attracts the most important retailers, clients and members of the press.”

    “More people than ever”

Shinji Hattori, Chairman and CEO of Seiko Watch Corp., confirms: “Seiko and Grand Seiko have had a good start to Baselworld this year. In advance, we had exactly the same number of meetings scheduled with clients and media as last year, but since the doors have opened we have received more new enquiries than in the past. In addition, our press conference attracted also more people than ever before. We are very satisfied with the response so far.”

    Baselworld’s Managing Director Sylvie Ritter
shares this satisfaction and feels confident: “80% of Swiss watch exports are represented at this year’s Baselworld. This makes Baselworld the preeminent specialised trade show for the watch industry. We are delighted by its successful start. The upswing has begun.”
