“There is no better way to discover a product than to be able to see, feel and experience it for yourself”
François Thiébaud talks about the importance of Baselworld and products of exception.
Baselworld: Which important premiere will we experience at Baselworld 2018?
François Thiébaud: One first is the fact that Baselworld will be shorter this year, going from eight to six days. Thanks to the internet, communication nowadays is much faster and allows us to communicate on our new products worldwide within seconds. It is therefore only natural we would adapt the length of the exhibition to the needs. However, Baselworld remains extremely important, as there is no better way to discover a product than to be able to see, feel and experience it for yourself. Furthermore, every brand has the opportunity to communicate their clear message and present its products in one place, which allows to exchange ideas and to truly discover the world of watchmaking. It is a place of excellence to discover watchmaking.
Baselworld: How do you recognise quality?
François Thiébaud: Quality is about ensuring the best from start to finish. It is about having the best material for the creation of a product and an excellent assembly, whether it is automated or handcrafted. That is what will produce a product of exception. It will then also need to be associated to a qualitative message to finish it all off.
Baselworld: What would you like to experience at Baselworld 2018?
François Thiébaud: Baselworld is a central meeting place, where all the actors of the sector come together, from production to distribution and even clients, consumers and enthusiasts. They come to discover the richness of the industry. Baselworld remains a unique place not only to look but to discuss, exchange and feel all the emotions behind the products, the brands and even just the atmosphere of the exhibition. Baselworld offers a global message that digital means cannot relate.
