    eho drive battery

I don't think eho drive and Seiko solar battery going to last you forever.
may be 15 years later you have to change the rechargeable battery just like
your hand phone. The rechargeable battery are expensive, search youtube on
how to change eho drive battery.

yup, capacitor is the wrong word use. because capacitor hold charge very short term. We in electronic industrial are wondering why the use the word capacitor. this are capacitor.

The answer is very simple: when Seiko launched their Kinetic line in 1988 the watches were powered by a real capacitor charged by a tiny generator connected to a rotor like the one of an automatic watch. The power reserve was only 3 days (three) which was in any case more than the one of an automatic watch.

The capacitor gave a lot of problems and was subsequently replaced by a rechargeable battery like the one used in solar watches by all makers. The word capacitor however was not really dropped because all the initial advertisement of the Kinetic was centered on the idea of a quartz watch without a battery so the word battery was not welcome. Even today Seiko talk about ESU's (electricity storage unit) but even in the user manuals you don't find the word battery.

    Re: eho drive battery

They last forever. You cannot be sure with anything basically. But chances are it will last way more than 15 years, at which point, you will be thinking about the stepper motor and the Integrated Chip. Around 30 years. The battery that these watches uses is not exactly the same as the one used on the phone. Further to this, the battery on these watches is not put under the same strain and demand that is placed on phones.

With the watches battery, and any Li-Ion for that matter, it is best to keep it fully charged. Don't do deep-discharges. If you do this, you should enjoy your watches for a long long time before needing battery replacement. So long that you will not have to worry about it. You will get bored long before you worry about the battery.

If it is just analogue watch without chronograph function. Even if the battery is shot (only lasting days or week after 'full' charge), you can still enjoy the watch, it will not just drop dead.

The cost of battery replacement should be no more than 150 bucks (including gasket replacement). If you got cheap citizen (less than $300), might be best not worry about it and just buy a new one. Having it for 20+ years it earns it. Nothing last forever.

All my solar watches always work properly, the only one that doesn't is the G-Shock G2800 with defective charging-unit/battery (CTL1616). Everyone that has the module/battery has the same problem. That one start acting up after 8 years.

Seiko and definitely Citizen uses different battery.

Also, Citizen has been one of the most experienced in this field, should have no worry at this point.

Just for kicks, I found a Calibre 8651 in my watch box which had been there unused in the dark for at least 5 years, and put it in sunlight. About 8 hours later second hand was moving. Next day I reset and it is working fine. I am impressed.
