Re: WUS project 2019 - Electronika.

I'm very glad to see so much interest to our watches after our brief email conversation with cuthbert I'm chief engineer of Technochas company, and i'll answer the questions about modules myself to avoid some misunderstanding.

We make them ourselves in Minsk (except one model -- 65M -- it has russified OEM Chinese module, i think it is out of this discussion). Most parts for modules are made now by Integral factories (like contacts, springs, plastic parts etc.). Due to some reasons (mostly economic ones) now we work at our own production of parts, but modules will not have any changes, so it's internal process of our company. In any case, we will still use the "brain" of our watches (integrated circuits) made by Integral.

As i write in email to cuthbert -- it is possible to design and produce LED module like in Gerlach (for example), it isn't an unreal task. But of course, it will take time and we'll do this work only if we'll sure that the party of this watches will be sold. Or, of course, we can simply order a LED module in China, it will be cheaper.

But with LED watches, please note the difference of display of Electronika-1 (and western digitals of 1970s) and modern ones. Old watches have small digits with very thin segments. In fact one digit is one big semiconductor crystal. But in modern ones each segment has its own LED inside, because of this segments are more thick and sometimes with uneven brightness. In my opinion, if we'll make a "vintage style LED watch", it is important to make not only "vintage" case, but "vintage" display too.

In any case, as cuthbert mentioned, for quick and cheap custom order the watch must have already produced LCD module and case (may be with unusual coating like black one, which we released this week). And with custom dial (glass) design. After it, if forum members will decide that we're good manufacturers , we'll start more longtime and expensive project. May be with custom case, may be with LED module.

In fact it's different case, with a bit different milling of front panel, more thin (6.5mm) and with other caseback.

    I like this thinking.

Thank you Surok for taking the time to answer our questions.

Re: WUS project 2019 - Electronika.

So to summarise the LED discussion so far:

An LED watch will be a substantial undertaking with much higher cost and time to complete compared to any other potential Elektronika project. The module will either be imported (and perhaps less authentic looking) or else it will require considerable research and development in-house. Those are the big issues, even before we consider the styling possibilities. To begin such a project we would need to be confident of a large number of subscribers willing to pay a higher price.

My reason for drawing attention to these points is that the mere fact of voting for LED does not guarantee that a project will happen. Once we decide on the direction that we will take, a project proposal will be forwarded to me to present to the forum administrator to approve. Approval requires a degree of confidence that the project will complete. In the past year here at Watchuseek, two projects have been cancelled before completion. Fortunately they both ended soon enough to avoid any cost to either the subscribers or the supplier. We can't just expect a project to be approved as a matter of course.

I'm not saying that we should not do an LED project. I am saying that we need to be really sure that this is the direction that we really want to go, and that everybody who says they want it needs to be strongly committed to seeing it to the end and paying the money.

Re: WUS project 2019 - Electronika.

I think we need to wait for Surok to confirm the prices and minimum number of watches for three options, namely:

    1) Led watch (I think he confirm they can make a LED module)
    2) Vintage 70s LCD like the B6-02
    3) Stainless steel multi-function Electronika with increased WR

We already know for the "basic" project the price will be the same as the base Technochas watch and the minimum amount of subscribers is 100.
